Shadows and Clouds – Darkness or Brightness – Picture to Ponder – v7-issue 40

by Sheila Finkelstein on October 12, 2011

In last week’s issue of Picture to Ponder, we addressed “light and shadows.” For this week, I am once again pulled in by shadows, contrasted with bright, somewhat early, morning light.

Today’s two photographs were taken with my iPhone camera and then enhanced using various “effects” in the FX Photo Studio application. The similarity/repetition in colors in the first four hold them together in an aesthetically pleasing presentation.

In addition to which photos to use, I always have the added consideration, if grouping a few especially with different subjects, to have them work well together.

The fifth image is so bright, it does not really seem to belong. And I couldn’t resist sharing it. Clicking on the smaller photos will bring up images that are the same size as the larger ones showing below.

Today’s Picture to Ponder Photos –

Relaxing on the sun porch at my son and daughter-in-law’s home in Georgia recently, my eye was captivated by the shadows on the window shades.

On the flight up to Georgia for the visit I was able to get some great cloud photos.

Self-Reflecting Queries

Often the definition of the words “shadow” and “cloud” refers to the “darker” side of situations. On the other hand, looking at the shadows and clouds in the above photos we are drawn in by the light that defines the beauty of the opposite.

I invite you to look into your life at your general ways of being. Do you usually see the negative or do you respond to the brightness in situations?

Given you’ve been subscribing to Picture to Ponder, perhaps for more than 7 years!, I assume you generally see the bright side to the various aspects of your life.

If this happens to you, do you sometimes become so blinded by it that you might lose sight of what’s really there?

Or, are you able to relax, play and enjoy the color and fun in whatever shows up?

Have fun, and please share in the COMMENTS below your experience with these photos and what comes up for you.

Hi Sheila,
I like the last photo of the plane and clouds that you photoshopped the colors…. It makes it look like an abstract painting which have always been my favorites.

Yes, it does look like an abstract painting, Joan. I think the thing that most disturbs me in the viewing is the bright white in the upper right. Somehow the color got blown out in that section.

I used FX Photo Studio application for iPhone and the effects are created with a single click, so no control over colors. Of course, if I wanted to take the photo further I could bring it into Photoshop.
